The South Zone leg of the AIORI 1 Workshop Series, brought together an exceptional group of experts and thought leaders to discuss the future of Internet measurement, open innovation, and standards in India. With a strong focus on collaboration between technical communities, academia, and standards bodies, the workshop energized participants with practical insights and visionary direction.
Anand Raje, CTO of IIFON, conducted the core technical session on the AIORI platform, demonstrating how this open-source, event-driven Internet measurement framework supports DNS and IPv6 observations, latency mapping, and standards testing. His session equipped attendees with real-world tools and concepts to engage in building a measurable and resilient Internet infrastructure.
T. R. Ramya from CEWiT (Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology) spoke on the importance of telecom standards and the role of TSDSI (Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India) in shaping India’s contributions to global standardization.
Shone Jose of IEEE offered a technical community perspective, highlighting the importance of open collaboration and the need to bridge standardization efforts with on-the-ground implementation. He spoke about how IEEE communities can play a role in nurturing student involvement and innovation through grassroots participation.
Dr. Sudha Bhuvaneshwari, President of ISOC Chennai, wrapped up the session by reinforcing the value of community engagement, inclusivity, and open standards in shaping India’s digital future. She emphasized the importance of strengthening local Internet communities and aligning them with national and global Internet development efforts.
The South Zone workshop not only enriched participants with knowledge and tools but also strengthened the regional ecosystem’s resolve to contribute meaningfully to India’s Internet future. As part of the broader AIORI 1 mission, this session exemplified how technical excellence, policy engagement, and community participation must go hand-in-hand.
